Stapelias are strange succulent plants native to the deserts of South Africa. Stapelia obducta is part of the Stapelia hirsuta complex. This species is endemic to the Steytlerville When the flowers just open, they are flat and deeply lobed, measuring about 5cm in diameter. As they mature the corolla curls backwards giving the flowers a very unusual appearance like a strange small red animal.
