STAR WARS: KNIGHTS OF THE OLD REPUBLIC WAS A 2006 MONTHLY STAR WARS COMIC BOOK SERIES PUBLISHED BY DARK HORSE COMICS. THE SERIES RAN FOR 4 YEARS UNTIL 2010 AND HAD 50 ISSUES.
 
On the planet Taris, a young Padawan named Zayne training at the Jedi Academy on Taris has been framed for a heinous and brutal crime against the Jedi order. Suddenly a wanted fugitive and on the run from his Jedi Masters, Zayne is forced to ally himself with the under-city's criminals, con artists, and petty thieves he'd previously vowed to bring to justice. Staying alive is the first order of business and if he's ever to clear his name, Zayne must make this new alliance work ... providing he survives the experience?
 
The storyline is set four thousand years before (3964 BBY) the rise of the Empire and the fall of Anakin Skywalker (and eight years prior to the events in the Knights of the Old Republic video game which was released 3 years earlier in 2003). In essence, the comic storyline depicts the rise of the Sith and the decline of the Jedi Order, setting the stage for the events in the 2003 video game "Knights of the Old Republic".  A great story for anyone interested in following the Star Wars saga beyond the films!

STAR WARS COMICS:
Star Wars comics have been produced by two main publishers since the debut of the 1977 film. Marvel Comics launched launched its first series in 1977, beginning with a six-issue comic adaptation of the film and running for 107 issues.
Dark Horse Comics published the limited series Dark Empire in 1991, and ultimately produced over 100 Star Wars titles, including Tales of the Jedi (19931998), X-Wing Rogue Squadron (19951998 I have all 3 issues), Republic (19982006), Tales (19992005 - I have 5 Issues), Empire (20022006), Knights of the Old Republic (20062010 - I have 9 Issues all oon auction this week), and Legacy (20062010 - I have 9 Issues).
The Walt Disney Company acquired Marvel in 2009 and Lucasfilm in 2012, and the Star Wars comics license returned to Marvel in 2015. Several new series were launched. In 2022, Dark Horse also resumed publishing new Star Wars comics.
