These boats have REAL steam engines
From the most technical to the simple toy lover, everyone has to at least have one Pulsating Water Engine (P.W.E.) boat or known as flash-steamers. A mesmerizing joy to watch and listen to!!! Run ‘em in the sink, bathtub, swimming pool, fishpond, etc.
These little live steamboats will chug along with the sound of a real ‘tug boat’ for about 15 to 25 minutes on a flame from a small candle or a small amount of olive oil.
This is a Big Deal about a little toy, a toy that has fascinated everyone from children to physicists for over one hundred years. It is one form of propulsion for small toy boats that does not use a conventional engine. It is nevertheless a true heat engine ... Boats fitted with these simple devices are variously known as flash-steamers. A more accurate term for the 'motors' is Pulsating Water Engine (P.W.E.) since that is what they are.
How To Operate a P.W.E (Pulsating Water Engine)
· Fill one thrust tube with water until the boiler is full
· Place a small candle or wick in olive oil underneath the rear of the flash steam boiler.
· Place the boat in the water.
· Light the wick
· And away it goes...
Included:
A dropper - for filling the thrust tubes with water
A fuel tray. (Ultimately you will want to use olive oil, as it is economical, clean burning, and safe).
On these boats you can squeeze the hull and remove the deck, which facilitates easier cleaning of any spilled oil, wax, or soot build-up on the boiler(engine).
WARNING!!::With open flame, small parts, and tin edges these boats are not intended for children, but rather adults or with adult supervision.
