Stellenbosch herdenk in 1979 sy 300 jarige bestaan. By hierdie eenmalige geleentheid verskyn Stellenbosch Drie Eeue, spesiaal nagevors en saamgestel as blywende hulde aan die verlede van ons oudste dorp. Die gedenkpublikasie is in opdrag van die Stellenbosse Stadsraad deur n span van 35 deskundiges geskryf om die geskiedenis van die dorp en distrik in al sy fasette te boekstaaf. Dit is ryklik geillustreer en bevat historiese materiaal vaarvan die meeste nog nooit voorheen gepubliseer is nie, onder meer Schumacher-akwarelle van 1776 in kleur, geskiedkunige kaarte en die eerste Stellenbosse grondbriewe (1686).
