Hallmarked Sterling Silver, Birmingham, Horace Woodward and Co., 1904.

Can be used as a pendant.5cm x 4 cm. 33.4 grammes, so quite a lot of silver here.

In truly excellent condition. Snaps shut securely so can be worn as a pendant.

Vesta cases were originally used to carry matches and the serrated edge at the bottom was used for striking the match.

Matches were not just needed for cigarettes in those days. Lighting lamps and stoves meant that it was really useful to have a Vesta case on one's watch chain.

Vesta cases stopped being used when the match book with strikeable paper was invented.
