Steuben Leaping Dolphin Figurine #7880 Designed By: George Thompson
Description
A lovely piece of art glass made by The Steuben Glass Company of Corning, New York. The item is a "Dolphin" sculpture and it is done in Frederick Carder's clear crystal style of glass. The sculpture stands 5 3/4" tall and is 5" wide and 3" deep. The piece is quite heavy for its size as it weighs 2.2kg.
The sculpture displays clear crystal Dolphin that is leaping out of the water . The Dolphin has a raised and ribbed top fin with round eyes, a pointed nose and 2 side of the face fins that are also ribbed. Even the tail has this same ribbing.
The vase is signed on the bottom edge in an etched "Steuben" cipher mark. This vase was designed by George Thompson in 1940 and its known as shape number 7880 and titled "Leaping Dolphin". This is a nice example of the Crystal Sculpture with no post factory damage. It has survived for 85 years and hopefully will survive another. I'm sure the buyer will be well pleased with their purchase.
