ATP (ARMY TRADE PATTERN): Instead, for most of the conflict, the British Army used ATP (Army Trade Pattern) wristwatches. These were first issued in 1939, and they were made to follow a set of specifications outlined by the War Office. ATP watches are characterized by a white/cream dial, Arabic numerals, a railroad minute track, and luminous hands and shatterproof chrystal glass. They must also be waterproof to the standards of the era. The seventeen brands (some of then are Buren, Cyma, Eterna, Grana, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Lemania, Longines, IWC, Omega, Record, Timor and Vertex).that supplied these watches also often supplied very similar black dialled pieces to the Germans as well. There are reports of the first W.W.W. pieces being delivered to the British in late 1944, but it seems that most, if not all, were delivered in 1945. Which means that crucially, most of these watches might not have seen active service in World War Two, but as they remained in service for several years, its always possible a surviving watch was used in another conflict.
