According to Wikipedia, “Homo erectus ergaster or African Homo erectus is an extinct chronospecies of the genus Homo that lived in eastern and southern Africa during the early Pleistocene, between about 1.9 million and 1.4 million years ago”
Their hand tools are named Acheulean.
“ …. from the French acheuléen, is an archaeological industry of stone tool manufacture characterized by distinctive oval and pear-shaped "hand-axes" associated with Homo erectus and derived species such as Homo heidelbergensis.”
We have received a few of these artifacts that we are selling separately – the first picture shows the small collection. The other pictures show the item you are bidding on.
The collection belonged to a former professor of Geology of the University of Pretoria (now deceased). One of the axes still has his handwriting on indicating that the axe was discovered on 22/7/1998.
