Did you know domestic reverse osmosis units waste 3 litres of water just to make 1 litre of purified water?
It's a fact that most domestic RO units produce up to 50 gallons per day. That works out to +- 100ml/minute. They also have a flow restrictor on the waste pipe which restricts to 300ml/min. So while your RO is running you are making 100ml/min and wasting 300ml/min, you can research this yourself. You will waste even more water when the membrane efficiency drops.
In the current drought and with water restrictions we cannot afford to waste all that water, but what to do with your reverse osmosis unit?
We recommend converting your reverse osmosis unit to a ultra-filtration unit, the benefits are:
All you do is remove the RO membrane and replace it with this ultra-filtration membrane. You won't even need the tank anymore. If you had a pump, you won't need it either. The water should go Municipal Supply -> 3 x 10" Pre-Filters -> UF Membrane -> Post Filters -> Faucet.
The UF membrane lasts 1-3 years. You should put a ball valve on the side port to allow you to flush the membrane once a month for a few minutes just to wash away debris so the membrane can last longer.
