Stormberg. A lost opportunity. The Anglo-Boer War in the North-Eastern Cape Colony. 1899-1902, published by Nasionale Boekhandel, Cape Town, 1969, hardcover, illustrated, index, 208 pages, protective cover, condition: as new.

The Battle of Stormberg was the first British defeat of Black Week, in which three successive British forces were defeated by Boer irregulars in the Second Boer War.

Johannes Meintjes was a South African painter, sculptor, amateur historian, writer and playwright.

In a review of John Coetzee's The Message in 1990, Marina le Roux wrote of Johannes Meintjes that he was "almost the ideal librarian: expert craftsman, artist, tireless researcher and entertaining writer, especially on South African history".
