String of Turtles is a wonderful house plant that is low in maintenance and relatively easy to care for. They look fabulous in a macrame hangers!

Peperomia prostrata, commonly known as String of Turtles, is a trailing succulent plant that belongs to the family Piperaceae. It is native to Central and South America.

The plant has small, round, fleshy leaves that are green in color and have a pattern of stripes or speckles on them. The leaves grow on long, thin stems that can trail for several feet in length.

String of Turtles is a low-maintenance plant that is well suited for growing in pots or hanging baskets. It is also an excellent choice for adding greenery to shelves, windowsills, or desks.

This plant is slow-growing and produces small, green-white flowers that are not particularly showy. Peperomia prostrata is considered a low light plant, making it a great choice for low light spaces.

String of Turtles Care Guide

Light:

String of Turtles prefer bright, indirect light but can also tolerate low light conditions.

Avoid direct sun exposure as it can cause scorching of leaves.

Water:

Here is the trick to keeping these guys alive!  They are grown in sphagnum peat moss from date one. This medium should not be allowed to dry out completely. So provide the right amount of moisture to keep the potting moist, but not soggy... Do not ever let the potting medium dry out completely.

Over-watering can lead to root rot.

Temperature:

String of Turtles prefers temperatures between 15-25°C and should be kept away from cold drafts.

Humidity:

This plant does not require high humidity and can tolerate average household humidity levels.

Fertilizer:

Fertilize the plant every 4-6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer) with a balanced water-soluble fertilizer such as Grobest.

Pruning:

Trim the plant to control its growth and shape it as desired.

By following these guidelines, you will be able to grow a healthy and attractive Peperomia prostrata (String of Turtles) plant.
