This book, written nearly 27 years ago, was born from a desire to help Muslims better understand Usul al-Fiqh: the science that provides the framework for understanding Islamic law, and a key feature of Islamic civilization. Then and now, the need for Muslims to better fathom the principles of deriving Islamic law remains a critical priority, exacerbated further by the widespread decline of Islamic intellectuality. This book attempts to combat this by promoting literacy on the subject of Usul al-Fiqh and its development, as well as its role in Muslim life, individually and collectively. Additionally, it aims to serve as a gateway to further research and study in this and related fields.
