Studio photograph of J.N. Boshoff, the Treasurer General of the South African Republic (Thesaurier-Generaal der Zuid-Afrikaansche Republiek), and Director at the National Bank of the South African Republic (Nationale Bank der Zuid-Afrikaansche Republiek).
The photograph (9,5x14,5cm) was captured by the early Paarl-based photographer, J.S Basson, and is originally pasted down on the studio's gilt and embossed board (18x24cm). The photograph is annotated on the verso, 'Thesaurier-generaal' 'Jacobus Nicolaas Boshoff'.
Boshoff (described by Merriman as the last honest man in the Transvaal Government), was the son of the President of the Orange Free State, and resigned before the Anglo-Boer War ostensibly for his opposition to Dr. Leyds (State Secretary) and the concession granted to the NZASM. Boshoff is pictured standing behind President Kruger in the following photo (not included) taken during the opening of the new De Nationale Bank der Zuid-Afrikaansche Republiek building during April 1893.
