The Rhodesian government saw the need for a regular infantry battalion i n the early 1960's and decided to start recruiting men for what is now known as the Rhodesian Light Infantry.
Regimental Accoutrements and Colours
Regimental Colours: The Regimental Colours is unique amongst all units which have served the British Monarch in that it has a rep of Flame Lilies (The Rhodesian national flower) instead of the traditional roses and thistles. The Regimental colour was presented to the first battalion on the 19th June 1965. The same colours were laid up on 17th October 1980. The Queen's Colour was awarded in June 1965 and was laid up in 1970 when Rhodesia became a Republic. (See Photo)
Stable Belt: The RLI wore a green stable belt with two equally spaced white stripes running parallel. The stable belt was fastened on the left side by two black leather straps and buckles. (See photo in mint condition)

Prior to this date the RLI wore a tartan green cap with a patent leather peak.
