A stunning and rare part tea set by Bavarian manufacturer, ALKA Kunst. ALKA is short for Alboth & Kaiser and no longer exists under this name. The back stamp dates this set to between 1947 and 1958. Unusually, remnants of the original sticker remains!
It is in a dark red/burgundy colour with rich gilding and beautiful filigree work (see the close-up photo for details). The set consists of a teapot, milk jug, lidded sugar basin and two demitasse duos.
Other than some signs of usage, the set is in excellent condition except for a chip on the lid of the sugar basin (see last photo).
Dimensions of teapot: 16.5cm L x 12cm W x 21cm H (to top of finial). Dimensions of duo: 7.8cm D x 4.8cm H (cup) and 12.6cm D (saucer).
This set is not just rare and gorgeous, but quite valuable and sought-after. A similar set, in a different colourway, retails for well over R2000 on eBay.
