This piece features 5 x oval iridescent opal cabochons claw set in sterling silver with a larger opal placed in the centre, raised 5mm above the finger, with a pair of smaller, opals flanking it. A narrow polished silver shank supports the ring head, which has openwork beneath each opal, allowing light to filter through the gemstone, maximising the iridescence and translucence. The secret to a precious opal is the optical effect resulting in flashes of coloured light from certain minerals, as they are turned in white light. The internal structure of a precious opal causes it to diffract light, resulting in play-of-colour. The two opals on either side have a distinct green tinge, while the central larger stone is more on the white side. The crafting jeweller describes them as "full flash" and "unheated. The ring head measures 5mm long x 17mm wide, and 5mm high. The piece bears the 925 hallmark indicating sterling silver and weighs a feminine 1,77 grams.
