Alexey Leonov's became the first cosmonut to perform walk in space. The historical event happened on the Voskhod 2 flight on March 18, 1965. He was outside the spacecraft for 12 minutes and 9 seconds on 18 March, 1965. Connected to the craft by a 5.35-metre tether. At the end of the spacewalk, Leonov's spacesuit had inflated in the vacuum of space to the point where he could not re-enter the airlock. He open the valve to allow some of the suit's pressure to bleed off, and was barely able to get back inside the capsule. Leonov and the 2nd team member, Igor Belyaev were awarded with the title hero of the Soviet Union for completing this mission, during which Leonov wore Sturmanskie Chronograph. Contemporary editions of that watch are presented in the "Pioneers of Space" series.
