About the Artist:
Robin Daniels, an Artist specialising in Lino Cuts and Relief Carvings
Robin’s work reflects an authentic South African vision, expressed with originality, technical accomplishments, nerve and energy, lightened at times by a brilliant wit. In more recent times, he has received a degree of public recognition and acclaim for his talents. His works are now found in private and corporate collections locally and abroad.
Robin was born in 1967 in Athlone on the Cape Flats. He is an entirely self taught artist without any formal training. He experimented with acrylic painting from an early age.
In 1991, he was introduced to the Lino Cut medium (stencil based template for producing paper and cloth prints). His mentors included prominent exponents of the medium and include the late Kweti Ndzube and the co-founders of Nyanga Art Centre, the brothers Patrick and Sydney Holo.
In 2002 he became a part-time educator at Amac (previously the Community Arts Project). There he taught and introduced the youth from previously disadvantaged communities to Lino Cuts and Mono prints. Thereafter he opened a studio at Montebello Art and Design Centre in Newlands selling his works to local and international buyers.
In 2007, he moved to the Good Hope Art Studios at the Castle in Cape Town. Here he concentrated on Relief Carving (incised wood carving painted with oils and acrylics). He now currently works from home in Seawinds, Lavender Hill. He also specialises in personalised portraits that he does on request. In this regard he can be contacted at [email protected]
