Sun And Shadow (Cheryl Lea)

John Hampshire Barnard has taken his teenage daughter and son on a holiday in India, a country he knows and loves. As a student of philosophy, Professor of History, Dean, Research Antiquary and Author, he constantly gathers material re India's history, pointing out and explaining many remarkable ancient buildings and systems.

But it takes a dramatic turn when the Professor purchases an ancient urn from which a wise and beautiful snowsprite emerges, bringing magic to the life of the children. The sprite is lost and is seeking his guru, the head Lama who has wandered from the Lamasery. The children persuade their father to take them across India in search of him, encountering many beautiful and strange places and people, and some dangers and dramas. One is in their travels in the Nilgiri Hills, where they find a young unconscious Indian who had fallen onto their path. As they care for him, an immediate bond is established and they take him with them. But there is tragedy which brings experiences and understanding of the 'other world'.

There are other strange encounters and romantic and scary experiences, and exciting towns with ancient buildings and quaint cultures as they cross India participating in its 'Holi Festival of Spring' - during which Jenny is abducted and saved.

Finally, they are directed to the Himalayas where they are told enigmatically they will find the guru. They fly to Kathmandu, climb a dangerous mountain and, after a further dramatic experience when the young Indian saves their lives, they finally meet the beautiful and holy lama.
