"Super Bomberman R" for PS4 is part of the larger Bomberman series, a classic action-maze game franchise. It was developed by Konami and HexaDrive, and originally released on the Nintendo Switch in 2017, before being ported to PS4, PC, and Xbox One in 2018. "Super Bomberman R" is the first main series entry in over 20 years and the first to be developed after Hudson Soft's dissolution. 
 
The game features a story mode where the eight Bomberman heroes journey to space to face and stop the Evil Emperor Buggler threatening Planet Bomber. It retains the core Bomberman gameplay of placing bombs to destroy obstacles and enemies, while introducing new characters, stages, and modes. "Super Bomberman R" offers both offline and online multiplayer modes, including the standard mode, Grand Prix, Battle 64, and a new "Castle" mode. 
 
Place bombs and collect power-ups to blast your way through classic 'Battle' or 'Story' mode. Play 'Battle' mode where up to eight players are dropped within a maze until the 'last man standing' is declared the winner. Venture through 'Story' mode where one to two players work cooperatively to clear a series of 50 stages in order to save the galaxy.
 
The Bomberman series originated in 1983 with a simple maze game for Japanese home computers. The series has seen numerous iterations across various platforms over the years. "Super Bomberman R" marks a return to the main series after a long hiatus, with a focus on both single-player and multiplayer experiences.
