Superb Antique Sterling Silver Sugar Basket

This very attractive, American, sterling silver basket, with a swing handle, sits on a round pedestal foot and features uniform cut out sides, which shows off the original cobalt blue glass liner. It was manufactured by 'BLACK, STAR AND FROST', a well-known-American jeweller and retailer, founded in 1810. The company is the oldest,continuously operating jewellery firm in the United States. Some of their notable clients were, the Rockefellers, Elizabeth Taylor, Zsa Zsa Gabor and the Carnegies. It dates to around the early 1900s and is stamped 'STERLING' 'BLACK STAR & FROST' '1908X', with the American eagle trademark. Although traditionally used for sugar, it could be used for chocolates, nuts, cream or even a sauce.The basket and glass liner are in excellent condition. It measures 10.5cm in height (18cm with the handle), has a base diameter of 8.5cm, a top diameter of 10.5cm and weighs 360g (with the liner).
