The English of this book is a free translation of the material as it was given to the author in Zulu. The phraseology will sometimes appear odd, but the author found that she could not transcribe the Zulu in any other way. In this form the English retains something of the idiom and poetry of the original. However, no culture, mind and language of a people can be exactly expressed in another language. For the author it was an exercise in which she first had to discover the cadences of the original Zulu and then try to reproduce their music by means of an instrument, English that used a totally different system of notes. This material should have been written in Zulu, to make it sing in all enchantment. Someday the author hopes that someone will do just that and write it in full.
