Swedish 'Nittsjo' Pottery Bird Whistle (Ocarina) 

This lovely, handmade, Scandinavian, studio pottery bird whistle or 'Ocarina' is made of red clay or terra cotta and hand painted blue with white decoration under glaze. It was made in Sweden by the 'Nittsjo Keramilk' factory and designed by 'Thomas Hellstrom' (1924-2006), who was one of Sweden's leading ceramic artists. This is a functional whistle or flute known as a 'Ocarina', where you blow through a hole in its tail and play the holes along its body. The bird stands 10,5cm high, measures 14cm x 5cm and other than a tiny paint chip on the beak it's in excellent condition. It's impressed on the base 'NITTSJO, SWEDEN'.
