The process:

Step 1: Calibrate the Tester

First, test your pool chlorine in the usual way with those pesky chemical kits. Record the chlorine level that you normally need for your pool or spa (eg 1.5 parts per million).

Insert the probe from the tester into the pool up to the black bands. Stir the water lightly with the probes. With the probe still in the water, turn the wheel on the face of the tester all the way to the left towards 'CL'. Slowly turn the wheel back to the right until the needle matches the chlorine level you recorded earlier.

Remove the probe from the water. The indicator needle will move all the way to the right and stop on a letter between A and E. This is your 'adjustment point'.

Step 2: Testing the Chlorine Level

Now, after a few days you are ready to test your pool water again - no need to get the chemicals out now. Grab your tester, adjust the wheel until the needle points to your 'adjustment point'. Put the probes in the pool water -the needle will move to a position on the dial. Simply read the instructions.

If you need to add chlorine, the display will tell you so. Add some, and retest until the needle stops in the ideal range. Simple.

Step 3: Testing the pH Level

With the probes still in the water, turn the wheel all the way toward 'pH' until you hear a loud click. The needle will move to display the pH reading of your pool or spa water. Again, instructions on what to do to adjust the pH are displayed on the dial.

Step 4: Get in the pool

Dry the probe ends, store your tester and get your swimmers on!
