SWISS BLUE TOPAZ 1,90CT GEMSTONE IRRADIATED FOR 2 YEARS! PLEASE READ DESCRIPTION
A BEAUTIFUL 1,90CT (0,38G PLEASE SEE PHOTO MULTIPLY WEIGHT WITH 5 TO GET CARATS) SWISS BLUE TOPAZ GEMSTONE WITH AN OCTAGON RECTANGULAR CUT. (8-SIDED ALSO CALLED EMERALD CUT).
THIS PARTICULAR STONE WAS BOUGHT INN 2011 FROM A SELLER IN CHANTHABURI THAILAND WITH THE ORIGEN OF THE STONE INDICATED AS BRAZIL. IT HAS A VVS (EYE CLEAR) CLARITY WHICH MEANS IT IS FREE OF INCLUSIONS AS SEEN WITH THE NAKED EYE WHICH IT APPEARS TO BE. IT WAS ALSO SOLD AS A NATURAL IRRADIATED OR HEAT TREATED TOPAZ GEMSTONE.
COMMON TOPAZ IN ITS NATURAL STATE IS COLORLESS, THOUGH TRACE ELEMENT IMPURITIES CAN IN RARE INSTANCES MAKE IT PALE BLUE OR GOLDEN BROWN TO YELLOW ORANGE. TOPAZ IS OFTEN TREATED WITH HEAT OR RADIATION TO MAKE IT A DEEP BLUE, REDDISH-ORANGE, PALE GREEN, PINK, OR EVEN PURPLE. WHILE NATURAL BLUE TOPAZES ARE KNOWN, THE HUGE PRODUCTION OF HEATTREATED BLUE TOPAZ HAS ESSENTIALLY DROPPED THE PRICE OF THE NATURAL BLUE DOWN TO THAT OF THE TREATED STONE.
NATURAL TOPAZ IS FOUND AS CRYSTALS THAT ARE CONSIDERABLY LARGER THAN THOSE OF MANY OTHER PRECIOUS STONES. CONSEQUENTLY, ITS PER-CARAT PRICE DOES NOT RISE MUCH AS THE SIZE OF THE GEM INCREASES.
THE 3 BLUE COLORS OF TOPAZ: SKY BLUE TOPAZ IS THE LIGHTEST COLOR OF BLUE TOPAZ WHERE WHITE TOPAZ IS IRRADIATED FOR 3 MONTHS TO CHANGE THE COLOR. SWISS BLUE TOPAZ IS THE MEDIUM COLOR OF BLUE TOPAZ WHERE WHITE TOPAZ IS IRRADIATED FOR 2 YEARS TO CHANGE THE COLOR. IF YOU ASK ME THIS IS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL OF THE BLUE TOPAZ. ITS VALUE IS AROUND $25 PER CARAT. LONDON BLUE TOPAZ IS THE TOP COLOR OF BLUE TOPAZ WHERE WHITE TOPAZ IS IRRADIATED FOR 4 YEARS TO CHANGE THE COLOR. IT IS A INKY GREY KIND OF BLUE
DISCLAIMER: I AM NO GEMSTONE EXPERT. THESE GEMSTONES BELONGED TO A FAMILY MEMBER THAT HAS PASSED AWAY. HE COLLECTED GEMSTONES DURING THE EARLY TWENTY FIRST CENTURY MANY WERE BOUGHT ON EBAY AND OTHERS BY TRAVELLING TO OTHER COUNTRIES. I HAVE TRIED TO VERIFY AS FAR AS POSSIBLE ANY STATEMENTS OR CLAIMS BY DOING SOME PRELIMERARY TESTS ON THIS GEMSTONE.
THIS TOPAZ GEMSTONE PASSED ALL THE TESTS THAT I COULD PERFORM: PASSED THE SCRATCH TEST: IT SCRATCHES GLASS EASILY IT IS HARDER THAN GLASS. (MOHS HARDNESS GLASS 5.5-6.5 TOPAZ 8.0) PASSED ELECTRON UV LIGHT EMISSION TEST: NO UV REACTION AS IS EXSPECTED. NATURAL BLUE TOPAZ SHOULD SHOW A MODERATE YELLOW OR GREENISH TO NO REACTION UNDER UV LIGHT. IRRADIATED TOPAZ LIKE A LONDON BLUE SHOULD SHOW A WEAK TO NO REACTION. (Topaz is often treated with heat or irradiation to make it a deep blue, reddish-orange, pink etc) (THE UV LIGHT HIT THE ELECTRONS. THEY JUMP AND FALL BACK. THEY RADIATE LIGHT OF A CERTAIN WAVELENGTH WHEN THEY DO WHICH IS SPECIFIC TO EACH ELEMENT IN THE MINERAL. THIS IS CALLED FLUORESCENCE. ONLY 10% OF GEMSTONES EXHIBIT A FLUORESCENCE AFFECT LIKE RUBIES, SAPPHIRE, TOPAZ, OPALS AND DIAMONDS. GLASS AND ALL NATURAL QUARTZ VARIETIES DOES NOT SHOW A UV AFFECT.) PASSED THE THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY TEST: TESTED THE THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY WITH A MIZAR PRESTIGE SERIES 2 DIAMOND TESTER. IT MOVED UP THE LADDER FROM STANDARD LEVEL 3 TO LEVEL 5. FOR TOPAZ A LEVEL OF 5 TO 6 IS THE NORM FOR THIS TESTER. (WITH THIS TESTER GLASS NO MOVEMENT AND QUARTZ ONLY MOVE UP LITTLE TO NO 4.)
SIZE: 8,0mm x 6,2mm x 3,9mm
TOPAZ INTERESTING FACTS: The first topaz was found in 1737 in Germany. Later, in 1740, a larger sample was found in Brazil. Initially there was a lot of confusion about what these gemstones actually were. Topaz was once famously mistaken for diamond. A 1680 carat topaz was mined in Brazil and named the Braganze Diamond. This stone was set in the Portuguese crown and was believed to be one of the largest diamonds ever found. It was later realised that this large, glistening stone was actually a colourless topaz. There is much debate surrounding the origin of the name topaz. It is believed by some that the name comes from the name of the island Topazos in the red Sea where stones were found that were initially believed to be topaz but were later discovered to be peridot. This gemstone is found all over the world. It has been mined in countries including Brazil, Russia, Zimbabwe, Germany and the United States of America. There are large mines in Utah that invite people to visit to mine their own topaz. Topaz can grow to an incredibly large size. The Museum of Natural History in New York City houses the heaviest topaz. This stone weighs 600 pounds (272kg). The largest faceted topaz is called the El-Dorado Topaz found near the mythical city El Dorado in south America and weighs 31,000 carats. It is believed to be the largest faceted gemstone in the world. It was cut into a flawless emerald shape and is an eye-catching yellow colour.
