Large panorama photograph by John H. Marsh, published by Akkersdyk in Cape Town. Extremely rare, first I have seen in 25 years.
Description continues: " This photograph was taken on April 17, 1941, when there were more than 525,00 tons of ocean-going shipping in port. The convoy was carrying more than 50,000 men from Britain to the Middle East.". Describes all the ships left to right with their tonnage. Amazing detail in the important historical photograph, showing the full extent of Cape Town Docks in 1941, as well as the very recently reclaimed Foreshore, still just wasteland!. Devil's Peak on extreme right. The bay in the background is clearly full of ships as well.
Frame is 91 cm x 31 cm.
Photo itself excluding title is 82 cm x 18 cm.
Very good condition in a gilt border solid wood frame, ready to hang on your wall.
