Dr Horace Dobbs believes there is something special, almost mystical, about the relationship between dolphins and humans wDolphinhich led to them being deified in ancient times. In his previous book, Follow A Wild , he describes how he had watched his young son riding joyfully in the sea on the head of a totally wild dolphin. It was a turning point in his life. Having studied the potent morphine-like drugs which act in the nervous system, he became convinced that dolphins, with brains as large as ours, have an uplifting effect on the human spirit, especially those suffering from chronic depression. If penicillin can be found in mouldy cheese, perhaps the dolphin secret could be distilled and evaluated.
Abandoning orthodox medical research, he befriended two wild dolphins, one off the French coast, the other in Cornwall. Their extraordinary story culminated in a moving encounter in the sea with a highly sensitive woman who could not swim. The meeting led to a remarkable experiment, 'Operation Sunflower'.
