Talinum is a genus of around 50 species of herbaceous succulent plants in the family Talinaceae (formerly in the family Portulacaceae) whose common names include fameflower and flameflower. Several species bear edible leaves and roots. The genus is distributed along dry areas of tropical and subtropical Africa, North America and Central America. The smooth, often succulent, leaves and their showy, cup- or saucer-shaped flowers make them nice additions to the rock garden. Grow them in well-drained soil of poor to moderate fertility in full sun. Indoors, use a cactus potting mix and grow in full light with good ventilation.

Talinum paniculatum is a succulent perennial subshrub that is native to much of the western hemisphere. It is commonly known as Pink Baby's-Breath, Fameflower or Jewels-of-Opar, a name borrowed from the title of the novel Tarzan and the Jewels of Opar by Edgar Rice Burroughs. Talinum paniculatum, much like Talinum caffrum bears tuberous roots making them collectable for caudiciform enthusiasts. It bears panicles of flowers and produces tiny, jewel-like fruits. It is often grown as an ornamental plant or bonsai. The leaves are edible and have medicinal properties. One leaf a day keeps anaemia, also spelled anemia, away. Anti-inflammatory properties are also reported.
