This early, tall, Royal Doulton ewer or pitcher, from the 'Dickens Ware' series has a lovely shape and depicts an old English street scene with 'Mr Squeers', the illiterate schoolmaster from the Charles Dickens novel 'Nicholas Nickleby'. It is painted in the earliest of the three colourways, against a white background with green trim, dating this piece between 1908 and 1931. This lovely jug is in excellent condition and is stamped on the base with the 'ROYAL DOULTON' 'DICKENS WARE' backstamp along with the series number 'D2973'. It stands 25cm high with a base diameter of 12,5cm and weighs 560g.
