"Taming the Landmine" by Peter Stiff is a unique study in the deterrent of landmines and improvised explosive devices used by insurgents and terrorists. Although this is a dated book it was the first book written on the employment of IED as a tactical weapon and the efforts made to counter its devastating effects. At the time of publication, the book covered a number of revolutionary ideas to counter IED strikes, included the V-shaped vehicle hull to deflect the blast of explosion minimizing the explosive effects of the vehicle in reducing injuries to the passengers. This concept took the United States nearly six years to relearn this lesson that the Rhodesian and South Africans mastered in the early 1970s. Overall, this is a must own by anyone wanting to grasp the threat of mines and IEDs being used against U.S. forces in Afghanistan.
