The flowering portion of the stalk is curled, slowly unwinding to reveal lavender colored flowers at maturity. Plants have lovely lavender - blue colored flowers that are not overly large and showy but make a nice mass blooming effect with thousands of flowers produced in crowded heads over many months. The flowers have fragrance reminiscent of grapes.Lacy Phacelia [ Phacelia Tanacetifolia ] is grown as annuals that willingly self seed. The stamens radiate outward, twice as long as the petals, giving the plant an unusual appearance. The foliage is lacy and a medium green color and the stems are often tinted reddish. The flowers are a rich source of nectar, so the plant is occasionally grown commercially as a crop for bees. The plant blooms well inside and only in five weeks from germination. Plants are durable and long blooming - they will self sow on open ground. The plant attracts to bees, butterflies, and birds.
