Tanganyika Buffer 4kg-PH Stabilizer

Tanganyika Buffer is a carbonate salt blend made to raise and stabilise pH, increase carbonate hardness (KH), and boost buffering capacity in freshwater aquariums especially for African cichlid setups based on Lake Tanganyika water conditions. It helps replicate the very alkaline, stable environment these fish prefer.

Why Use Tanganyika Buffer?

In the wild, Lake Tanganyika has:

  • High pH (~9.09.4)

  • Strong alkalinity (buffering)
Tanganyika Buffer aims to safely recreate similar conditions so your fish stay healthy and stress-free. It's especially useful if your source water is softer/lower pH than what cichlids are adapted to.

What It Does

Increases KH (carbonate hardness) which helps keep pH stable over time.
Boosts buffer capacity meaning water is less likely to swing wildly in pH.
Does not significantly change general hardness (GH).

 How to Use It

  • Initial adjustment:
Use about 5 g per 4080 L (1020 US gallons) daily until your desired pH is reached and stable.

  • Maintenance dosing:
Once stable, you usually only need to add it every 23 weeks or with water changes to maintain pH.

  • Pro tip:
It's best to dissolve the buffer in freshwater first, and add it after adding any salts (e.g., cichlid lake salt).

 Best For

  • Lake Tanganyika biotope aquariums

  • African cichlids that thrive in high pH/alkaline water

  • Water that tends to be soft or runs low in natural buffering

Caution

  • Raising pH too fast

  • Always test pH and KH regularly don't rely on guesswork alone.
