1950s Wedgwood & Co. 23cm Bowl-Style Dinner Plate Cream Earthenware Floral Plate

Markings: REG TRADE MARK NO 547269 with the letter "B," indicating the ware produced under the Wartime Concentration Scheme.
Manufacturer: Wedgwood & Co. Ltd, England, produced at the Unicorn Pottery and Pinnox Works in Tunstall, Stoke-on-Trent.
Design: This cream-colored plate features a green trim with floral decorations, marked with a green decorators number 1-027.
Material: Earthenware
Dimensions: 23cm in diameter

Historical Context: This plate was produced during the 1950s when Wedgwood & Co. operated under the Wartime Concentration Scheme. The "B" marking indicates its class of ware permitted during the war. The company continued to produce high-quality goods throughout the mid-20th century, with this piece reflecting their dedication to craftsmanship.

Background: Often confused with Josiah Wedgwood & Sons Ltd., Wedgwood & Co. Ltd maintained its distinction by including "& Co" or "& Co Ltd" in its name. The company was a significant player in the earthenware market, producing a wide range of goods for domestic and international markets. In 1965, Wedgwood & Co. was sold to Semart Importing Co. and became Enoch Wedgwood (Tunstall) Ltd.
This plate is a beautiful example of mid-20th century English earthenware, combining historical significance with elegant design.
