Taragüi Yerba Maté 1kg is an imported Argentine loose-leaf classic for regular drinkers. It has a bold, earthy and slightly smoky-bitter character with naturally occurring caffeine.
*Based on 510g per modern cup; a traditional gourd uses more leaf and supports repeated refills.
Part-fill a gourd, tilt the leaves, moisten with cooler water, insert the bombilla and add water at approximately 7080°C. Refill while the flavour remains enjoyable.
Use about one tablespoon per cup, steep in 7080°C water for 35 minutes and press.
Prepare with cold water or cool a brewed infusion, then serve over ice with citrus or mint.
Taragüi and coffee both contain caffeine but offer different flavours and rituals. The caffeine in either drink varies with preparation, so compare your actual serving rather than assuming one is always stronger.
Yerba Maté naturally contains caffeine. Prepared strength varies with the amount used, water temperature, steeping time and repeated infusions. Start conservatively if you are caffeine-sensitive and avoid it close to bedtime.
Ask an appropriate healthcare professional before use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have an anxiety disorder, heart-rhythm condition or uncontrolled blood pressure, or use stimulant medicines, MAO inhibitors, some decongestants or other products containing caffeine. Count coffee, tea, energy drinks, chocolate and pre-workouts toward your total daily caffeine.
