A 4 pence  stamp depicting Queen Victoria issued by Van Diemensland (the former name for Tasmania, Australia) between 1857 and 1869.  This stamp was issued imperforate, with a watermark 4 on the back to correspond to the value of the stamp.

It is in all round good condition, with a centred bar cancel.  There is a tiny cut in the bottom right corner, more easily seen from the back.  I have not washed this stamp, and there is a partial hinge at the back which accounts for the browny marks in the second photo.  The margin has been a little close-cut at the bottom, but all in all this is a lovely example of this stamp and well worth the purchase price at a fraction of catalogue value (R375).
