Tata Indica in Johannesburg requiring replacement engine

Re-listed because the winner of the previous listing didn't produce the money. No reserve - minimum bid is R9999.

Tata Indica 1.4 LXi, registered 2005-08-30, needs a replacement engine. A new engine is uneconomic (at around R40,000). I have unsuccessfully looked for a reconditioned engine so am offering the vehicle to somebody who feels that they could source an engine.

The vehicle is in good condition (it was not involved in an accident, the engine blew up - I don't know why). The advice that I have received is that the cylinder block is cracked and hence repairing the engine is not an option.

The only problems that I am aware of are:

1) the power steering unit leaks fluid which needs to be topped up periodically

2) the rear passenger-side tyre has a slow puncture

Other than this I had no problems.

The vehicle has done about 130,000 km. The battery has gone flat and I don't have a charger so I cannot confirm the exact mileage.

I was told that a replacement engine should be available for about R 8,000 but without a car I have struggled to search for one. With a replacement engine the vehicle would be worth in the region of R 30,000 to R 40,000 so there is a significant profit available for somebody who can source an engine.

The vehicle is in Melrose North (between the Wanderers and Melrose Arch). Ignore that my profile states that I am in KZN - I live in KZN but I work in Johannesburg and this was the car that I used in Johannesburg during the week.
