It forms a compact rosette of small dark leaves, which are mild in taste and ideal for stir-fries and popular for sprouts. Plants can be grown from spring until fall and have a long harvest period. Overall it is a unique and easy to grow addition to the garden.

The crisp greens are a cool-season plant that can withstand frost, snow, and cold temperatures.

Tatsoi is generally eaten raw, but may be added to soups at the end of the cooking period. The leaves make a flavorful addition to salad and can be added at the last minute to stir fry dishes.
