Tchaikovsky became a serious composer in his mid teens, before continuing his study at the St. Petersburg Conservatory. After Piano Concerto No.1 was played in Boston, Tchaikovsky became widely popular, producing commissions on a regular basis. Although he led a controversial personal life, his work continued to show greatness, as seen in the works of ¿The Queen of Spades¿ and the ballet ¿The Nutcracker.¿ Known for his harmonies and picturesque orchestration, Tchaikovsky transformed the ballet genre into the grandly-staged musicals of today.
