This item is critical for system maintenance and problem solving. If you have a problem, the first thing we will ask is "what are the TDS readings?".

The TDS meter is the only way to check to confirm that the RO membrane is working properly and at what efficiency. It is also the only way you can tell when the DI filter is exhausted.

Checking the feed water into the RO unit and comparing it with the output of the RO, will tell you how well the membrane in doing its job. This is called the rejection rate.

You should get a 95% +/- reduction in TDS. If you are getting less than this rate of rejection, something is not right, and we need to find the answer.

When this rejection rate start dropping to 90% and the 85%, this means the membrane is in trouble...try flushing it well, and if that fails, then it maybe getting close to the time to replace it.

The RO system will get the feed water in most homes (200 TDS feedwater) down to under 10 TDS (total dissolve solids measured in parts per million). The remaining TDS is a measure of those tiny inorganic whatever compounds and elements that snuck though the membrane.

If you do not want to pay R4,500-R7,000 for an installed system and want to be a do-it-yourself type, great, that is why we exist, but please buy the necessary tools to install and maintain our bargains.
