Binary Up / Down Counter, 11 MHz, 3 V to 18 V, DIP-16Product OverviewThe CD4516BE is a CMOS presettable binary Up/Down Counter consists of foursynchronously clocked D-type flip-flops connected as counters. This counter canbe cleared by a high level on the RESET line and can be pre-set to any binarynumber present on the jam inputs by a high level on the PRESET ENABLE line. Ifthe CARRY-IN input is held low, the counter advances up or down on eachpositive-going clock transition. Synchronous cascading is accomplished byconnecting all clock inputs in parallel and connecting the CARRY-OUT of a lesssignificant stage to the CARRY-IN of a more significant stage. The CD4516B canbe cascaded in the ripple mode by connecting the CARRY-OUT to the clock of thenext stage. If the UP/DOWN input changes during a terminal count, the CARRY-OUTmust be gated with the clock and the UP/DOWN input must change while the clockis high.
