The 1822 Fame Shipwreck (Cape Town) : GOLD One Mohur of 1820 with Certificate copy.

This is the large 11.7 gram One Mohur (I also have the gold 1/3 Mohur currently on auction).

The Fame was a British East indiaman, built in Calcutta. On June 14th 1822, while on her return voyage from Madras to England with a cargo of sundries and passengers, she was thrown on the rocks at Sea Point, by a strong North-Westerly storm, off Table Bay. This coin comes with a photocopy of the original certificate.
