Each book includes contextual questions for discussion during class or at home. The Adventures of Koda is the third book in this series. Written by debut author, Valencia Jacobs, the target audience is learners in Grades 4 and 5 and it follows the adventures of Koda, the husky, and Bella the labrador.
Koda is an entertaining husky who wreaks havoc wherever he goes. Mandisa is Koda's owner. She loves Koda very much, but she has to deal with his naughty behaviour. Koda is always wandering in and out of the house, dropping things and making a mess. Mandisa's mom complains about Koda making her house untidy. Koda goes to puppy because Mandisa wants him to learn how to obey commands, but Koda does not like it there. The other dogs pick on him. During a storm, Koda gets a fright and runs away from the thunder. Suddenly, he is lost and all alone.
Koda meets another dog named Bella and he is intrigued by her. Her owner is a scary man. Bella's owner is horrible to her, so she runs away with Koda. They go on a quest to find food and they stumble into trouble with a pack of stray dogs. They run away from the dogs and take refuge under a bridge as it starts to rain heavily. There is a river that flows near the bridge. Koda hears a scream and sees a hand waving in the water. There is a little boy in the river, drowning. Koda and Bella save the child by pulling him out of the river. The boy's parents are relieved and they help Koda and Bella find Mandisa.
