Fetner addresses this book to the intelligent, literate reader, offering much practical advice on organizing a safari and successfully photographing wildlife. Yet the book is poorly suited for libraries. The encyclopedia of animals that makes up most of the book will not serve reference needs; full of personal observations and analysis of current research, these excellent essays deserve attentive reading yet as a whole are too long to be read straight through. Similarly, a long section of literary excerpts about Africa is suitable only for browsing. However, the stunning photographs alone could justify purchase by larger libraries.
