Evelyn Borchard Metzger grew up in New York City, the daughter of a family prominent in real estate and art collecting. Her life brought her into contact with notables in the art world, with royalty, presidents and top diplomatic and business figures. Yet it is the exposure to great art which has most inspired and motivated her work.

For more than seventy-five years, despite the demands of her roles as wife of a corporate executive and mother of three active children, and despite the distractions involved in making numerous international moves, she always has remained a serious painter. The result of this single-minded devotion is an artistic oeuvre as remarkable for its diversity as for its size.

Through the years Metzger has explored many different styles, including Realism, Impressionism, Neo-Impressionism, Fauvism, Cubism and pure abstraction.

Metzgers accomplishments likewise are impressive. Since her first one-person exhibition in Argentina in 1950, she has had numerous additional solo showsin Mexico, France and all over the eastern and midwestern United States. The richness of her work pays tribute to the vital role of creative expression in women.
