Alexander Rose-Innes, born in 1915, South African artist, showed early artistic talent in Beauford West. After wartime service, he moved to Cape Town in 1956, influenced by the thriving art scene. Working as a sign-writer, he gained recognition with his first solo exhibition in 1958, focusing on everyday scenes, Cape landscapes, and intimate still lifes. His warm, subdued tones, influenced by Russel Harvey, contribute to the popularity of his work, part of the Cape Impressionist tradition, celebrated in significant South African art collections.
