Paperback in very good condition. Published 1990.  348 pages

Naboth Mokgatle was born in 1911 in a village called Phokeng near Rustenburg. After his schooling by Lutheran missionaries, Naboth left for Pretoria, partly to improve his financial status, but also to escape the weight of conservative tribal tradition. it was not long before he realized that he had only exchanged a mild form of tyranny for an even more severe one crammed with the trappings of petty apartheid.

He became involved with trade union organization and politics during the short-lived heyday of collaboration between left-wing whites and the African nationalists. Successive acts of defiance of authority led to his being arrested and imprisoned.

In 1954 he fled South Africa without a passport, and lived in London as an exile.  Read on for the full tragedy, as it unfolded.
