Outer casings of both volumes have been nibbled and worm activity to the spinebands, but no penetration to the book. Volume I to page 1 are loose with a top fractured hinge. Volume I pages xvi + 337; Volume II pages xii + 339-690. The index for both volumes is contained within Volume II. All 70 indexed illustrations and 9 maps are present to both volumes. Owner's plate to the front pastedown of each volume and handwritten name in ink to the front endpaper. Paperblock top edge is gilt but dusty. Loosely inserted is the obituary of Sir Godfrey Lagden from The Times; June 27th 1934.
