"The Big Chill" follows a group of former college friends who reunite for a weekend after the suicide of their friend Alex, reflecting on their past idealism, present lives, and enduring friendships.
The film opens with the news of Alex Marshalls suicide, which brings together his University of Michigan friends at the vacation home of Harold and Sarah Cooper in South Carolina, where Alex had been staying. The group, now in their thirties, includes Sam Weber, a television actor; Meg Jones, a former public defender turned real-estate attorney; Michael Gold, a journalist; Nick Carlton, a Vietnam veteran and former radio psychologist struggling with addiction; Karen Bowen, unhappily married; and Chloe, Alexs much younger girlfriend.
