From Goodreads ;To enthusiasts of archaeology and Egyptology this book is a treasure. The history of the 4,000 year old cedar boat is amazing, especially as they had to piece it together with no guidelines other than pictures of boats in from tomb walls. There isn't one nail in the whole ship. The wood is shaped and held together by an intricate system of ropes. The author worked with the men who found it, and outlines their thinking on what it was used for, the significance of the ship throughout Egyptian history and uses they were put to. The main challenge now is preserving the ship for posterity. An excellent read.
In 1954, a young Egyptian archaeologist, clearing a site just south of the Great Pyramid at Giza, discovered a great papyriform ship, built for a king and then dismantled and buried at the height of the Egyptian Old Kingdom. This book tells the story of this Royal Ship--its discovery, excavation and reconstruction.
