There are five, yes FIVE Bonzo albums plus a few non-album tracks in a groovy slipcase, each with interesting accompanying sleeve notes. Some say Viv Stanshall's Dali-esque eccentricity was an affectation, but having encountered the strange creature on a summer's day by the Thames wearing a heavy trenchcoat, oversized leather hat and pink 'Elton John' spectacles I can assure you he was unhinged, an arty-fool - and it shows in several Bonzo tracks. Nearly everything you need is here, and only a small proportion of it is less than entertaining. The Python-esque element pervades much of it which isn't a bad thing either. Numerous jazz noventy tunes, especially on the pleasing but unadventurous earlier couple of albums give way to superior whimsy on the 3rd-5th albums, including some decent Neil Innes-penned 'rock' songs that are almost conventional, especially the rather good Keynsham album where there are Rutles-style pastiches and a couple of rockers you wouldn't think are the Bonzos at all. The taster of Rawlinson End on a later album shows how great (and refreshingly non-PC) Stanshall's writing was. Worth getting the Sir Henry at RE disc too. Discover or re-discover the Bonzos as they're entertaining and terribly witty, even after all these years. - Amazon user review
